The kamisi tells of a past, a different age carried forward, while the energy of the youth points us to a future that's not yet written. Between the two lies a gap; a huge gap; a gap of mutual understanding.

Too often, the young feel judged, and the old feel unheard, perhaps unrespected. What if badala ya kusema “in our day” as a rebuke, we offered the strength of our experience while honoring the challenges mayout huface today. Their zeal is not to be demeaned but to be directed towards light. Understanding that this might not be a transformation of the kamisi generation, it might be an entirely new generation altogether ni lazima.

The challenge is not in pointing out flaws, but in recognizing potential. Proper understanding and progress will only be achieved when the two generations listen to one another; that's when tradition will become a guide and innovation a path.

I’m reminded of "Kamisi Oooh Kamisi, Kamisi na Biker uliacha nanusanga ndio nilale!" Maybe Bien's 'Kamisi' was a different kind (from mine). Mine told a narrative. A narrative long forgotten.
